David and Joyce Reed

Reed

Since 2000, when the Reeds arrived in La Paz, they have seen the Mexican Baptist Convention of Southern Baja expand from 6 churches to 11, and three of those are planting new churches. An interesting fact is that these churches are growing through new believers. 98% of the people joining the Baptist Churches did not previously know Jesus. One growing church doesn’t have enough space for worship because more than 500 are now coming!

In 2005, the Convention partnered with Lacey Seminary in Oaxaca to begin a Theological Extension School to train new leaders. In 2010, the school will graduate its first group of students from a three year program, and 6 more people have joined the program as first-year students. David and Joyce have also seen one student travel from La Paz to Oaxaca to study full-time.

Their ministry to English-speaking people continues to grow by leaps and bounds! In the last 9 years, they have seen this ministry grow from 8 people that met for a Bible study in their living room to a stable church of 50+ called Crossroads. The Reeds have seen God glorified through the growth and transformation of many lives.

Pray for Peace

peace

Tis the season of the Prince of Peace. We need to pray for Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Everyone. Below is a prayer for Burma / Myanmar, a place that has seen violence for 50 years. Pray for Peace in Burma and everywhere.

We pray for peace in Burma. We pray for justice for all people that will make for a lasting and substantive peace. We pray for relief for the suffering of those who have fled their homes. We pray that all the people of Burma might find the way to obedience to your call in Matthew 5:21-26 to make peace with our adversary "while there is time." May people, groups and the government choose to practice conflict transformation talks rather than war. May your justice, peace and healing come to this long-suffering land and its many people. Amen.

Helping Orphans in Mexico

Alan and Pamela Skuse originally from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, have six grown up children and a growing number of grandchildren. Three of their children are now married to Mexicans and most live in Queensland.

Pam and Alan arrived in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico in November 2000 to spend 12 months volunteering at an orphanage. The organization they came to help closed down within 6 months so Pam and Alan were left with the dilemma of what to do regarding the children in their care.

"Do we just leave and let the children go back to the streets and lives of abuse after giving them a taste of what life could be like or do we take on this huge responsibility with no resources to support us?"

"It didn´t take long to realize that we could not abandon these kids and because we could see that there was such a great need in this area of work, we decided to stay."

Alan and Pam ‘stepped out’ and established their own refuge, Albergue Mission Mexico, Dando, Amor, Vida y Esperanza (Mission Mexico Refuge, Giving Love, Life and Hope) to care for the children and have dedicated their lives to doing this work. They care for children, boys and girls, aged 2 to 17 years, who have been abandoned, abused, neglected or orphaned and are often from backgrounds of extreme poverty. The number of children in their care changes constantly but on average they care for 50 children on a permanent basis.

Since the refuge was established Pam and Alan have helped around 250 children from various circumstances of need.
